Shaun is a young and quite lonely guy. His dad recently died in the Falklands war. By coincidence he gets in contact with the older Woody and his skinhead friends. Shaun lightens up and seems to have found a gang he feels comfortable with. Then the violent Combo turns up. Through engaging speeches about fighting for England’s pride he seduces Shaun into joining a more aggressive and racist group within the skinhead culture. This is England is about placing then and now towards each other trying to show that history continues. That we always have to take a stand, make choices and constantly grow up, over and over again. The film is a strong description of a seeking, young boy and a deeply committed portrait of England during the 1980s. It also shows the division in the skinhead culture between the origin, which was about the interest of music, and the groups which are widely known for their racist values
