Take the example of Charlotte Lee and her horse,Thunder. One warm, summer night, the whole familywas asleep with the windows open. It was normallyvery quiet where they lived. There were only a fewfarm houses scattered about the area and hardlyany traffic. All of a sudden, there was a loud crashingnoise from the stable. Charlotte woke up with a start, and her heart pounding, as the noise continued. Shewas so frightened, she froze; no matter how hardshe tried she could not move. The noise stopped assuddenly as it had started, and she heard a horsegalloping towards the house. The next thing she sawwas Thunder standing outside her window, neighingand shaking his head as he stomped on the wooden porch. She knew enough about horses to know thatThunder was disturbed for a reason, and wasted notime speculating. She quickly got everyone out ofthe house before the earthquake hit. Part of the roofcaved in and crashed into her room. Thunder haddeliberately saved her life.
