Act I initiates the satire of romantic love and romantic views of war, which forms the main thematic stand of the play.It introduces the main characters; Bluntschli, Raina, Catherine, and Louka actually appear on the stage and we are given a lot of information about Sergius.Act I performs several of the functions that the exposition performed traditionally.The important themes, such as the satire of both romantic love and of romantic glorification of war are introduced in this Act.We come to know that Bluntschli is a hard headed realist, who has a very down-to-earth, practical approach to everything.
