Injury[1] refers to a bodily injury or vibration resulting from sudden bodily injury, beginning with an act of violence or an accident.[2]  Trauma can also be described as “a bodily wound or bodily injury, such as a fracture or a beating.”[3]  Major shock (defined by an severity scale greater than 15)[4] can be secondary complications such as circulatory shock, respiratory failure, and death.  Resuscitation of a trauma patient often involves multiple treatment procedures.  Trauma is the sixth leading cause of death in the world and accounts for 10% of all mortality, and is a serious public health problem with significant social and economic costs.
