Dear Editor,

I urge you to support the protection of the endangered African mole rat, which may be extinct within 15 years.  Its unusual appearance discourages public interest, despite its significant scientific value.  Mole rats' cancer resistance is of great interest to researchers seeking cancer cures.  Their ability to sense earthquakes before they occur offers potential for life-saving early warning systems.  Finally, their exceptionally long lifespan (30 years, compared to three for other rats) holds clues to longevity research.  Saving this animal is crucial for scientific advancement and potentially, for saving human lives.
