Metformin (biguanide)
a. Mechanism of action: Reduces hepatic gluconeogenesis.Can increase at weekly intervals as necessary

b. Dosing
i. Initial: 500 mg once or twice daily (once daily with extendedrelease formulation)
ii. Maximal daily dose: 2550 mg (more commonly, 2000 mg/day)
iii.
