​Communities are an essential and permanent feature of human experience.
​Is a social group determined by geographical boundaries and/or common values and interests.
​Collection of people who share some important features of their lives, or a group of people sharing values and institutions. (Broadly).
​A social unit in which there is a transaction of a common life among the people making up the unit. (Green and Anderson).
​Community health nursing is a synthesis of nursing practice applied in promoting and preserving the health of the population. Community health implies integration of curative, preventive and promotional health services. The aim of community diagnosis is the identification of community health problems.
​Purpose of Community Health Nursing (CHN)
​The primary goal of community health nursing is to help a community protect and preserve the health of its members, while the secondary goal is to promote self-care among individuals and families.
​Components of Community
​1. People
​People are a community's most important resource: they are its essence.
​People give the community its identity.
​They have responsibilities to the community.
​People have shared values.
​2. Goals and needs of a community
​Goals and needs of a community are determined by its people.
​Each community will have community health goals and needs.
​In general, community health goals and needs follow Maslow's hierarchy order of basic needs.
