INTRODUCTION Arabic is the main language in Libya, so we call it (mother tongue).to improving educational practices by understanding the barriers faced by students, which enables teachers to develop more effective teaching methods and educational materials.This includes designing a curriculum that meets the needs of students and addresses common difficulties, in addition to creating a supportive learning environment and improving curriculum design. 2) The learners reallly need the first language in EFL classes for firsr-year students at the Faculty of languages, Surman University, Department of English languages.When students are aware of potential difficulties and have effective strategies to overcome them, their chances of continuing to study the language and achieving their educational goals increase.In contrast, adult students in the Faculty of Languages have many characteristics such as that they can be critical of the teaching method applied by their teachers and do not feel safe when only English is used.Second, identifying and addressing the challenges facing students early on helps improve their academic outcomes.This data can guide the development of programs at the institutional and national levels, such as calling for increased resources, making changes to curricula, or implementing new support services.Finally, this study adds to existing research on language learning, enhancing our understanding of the language acquisition process and identifying areas that require further research in the future.Since most of the studies conducted that addressed this problem were about secondary level, few of these studies talk about adults who start learning a foreign language at an advanced age. 2) Focus on grammar and syntax, as excessive focus on grammar and syntax in the early stages may hinder the development of speaking and listening skills.In addition, this study can contribute to the development of educational policies by providing research-based data on students' challenges.1.3 Study objectives: 1) The use the first language in EFL classes.
