Objective

The aim of this study is to determine the level of social support among mothers who are experiencing postpartum depression.

Method

The study utilized a survey design to collect data from 102 postpartum women at community health centers in Yogyakarta. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was employed to assess depressive symptoms, alongside questionnaires to measure social support and demographic data. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, and standard deviations.

Results

The findings revealed that the mean EPDS score was 15.89, indicating that mothers experience moderate levels of postpartum depression. Additionally, the research found that mothers received high social support from their partners across all four categories: emotional support (56.9%), household support (52%), babysitting support (51%), and help support (52.9%).

Discussion

The discussion focuses on the impact of social support on postpartum depression, highlighting that emotional support and assistance with household tasks play a crucial role in reducing the risk of depression. The results indicate that mothers who receive emotional support and help from their partners are at a lower risk for depression. However, despite having good social support, the level of depression remained moderate, suggesting that other factors may also influence mothers' mental health.
