rules, there must be good reasons for ignoring them, as they are examples of
good practice. The objectives of the referral guidelines are to improve clinical
practice, to reduce the number of unnecessary examinations and, hence, to
reduce unnecessary medical exposure. The main target group of the guidelines is
referring clinicians. Medical physicists can, however, also benefit from studying
the general scheme of the guidelines, to cooperate better with medical
staff in using the guidelines.
