Abstract
Medical imaging procedures such as X-ray scans and computerized tomography scans are of great significance to the healthcare system since they aid physicians in diagnosing many medical conditions. Despite their significance, however, medical imaging procedures expose patients to harmful ionizing radiation. Therefore, it is essential to control the radiation dose to minimize any possible harm to the patient. The most common way to control the radiation dose is collimation. Collimation limits the X-ray beam to the specific region to be examined. Therefore, collimation is essential since it reduces the unnecessary radiation dose while producing quality images.

In digital radiography, the images are sometimes adjusted electronically after the image is captured. This is done instead of collimation. The adjustment of images electronically increases the patient's radiation dose (Esmaeilian et al., 2024). Therefore, it is essential to understand the effect of collimation techniques on the patient's radiation dose. The study aims to explore the effect of collimation techniques on patient images.

Chapter 1: Introduction
Statement of the Problem
Inappropriate collimation techniques used during radiographic procedures may result in excessive patient doses due to radiation exposure. In some radiographic procedures, technologists may rely on the use of electronic cropping after the image is acquired, rather than adjusting the beam before the exposure. This may result in the exposure of areas of the patient's body that are not essential for the diagnosis, as well as increasing the dose of the patient (Esmaeilian et al., 2024).

The Research Problem
The research problem of the study is the use of inappropriate collimation techniques, which may result in increasing the dose of the patient without improving the quality of the image acquired during digital radiography. It is essential to investigate the effect of collimation techniques on the dose and quality of the image acquired during radiography.

Background and Justification
Radiation protection is an essential element of medical imaging since repeated exposure to radiation can lead to increased risk of health complications over time. The best way to minimize radiation exposure is to ensure proper collimation is observed. By collimation, the beam of radiation is only exposed to the specific area of interest. This minimizes unnecessary exposure while improving the quality of the images (Esmaeilian et al., 2024).

Research has also shown that it is possible to optimize the imaging process to minimize the amount of radiation while improving the quality of the images (Mialkowskyj et al., 2026). The fact that digital images can be altered even after exposure is an important consideration. The question is whether the technologists are still using the proper collimation techniques during the imaging process.

Deficiencies in the Evidence
There is an overwhelming number of studies on the reduction of the radiation dose for medical imaging. However, few studies have been done on the effect of collimation techniques on the patient's radiation dose during routine digital radiography.

Audience
As the research is about collimation techniques and patient radiation dose so, the audience of this research would be the general population and especially the healthcare providers in the Radiology Department.

.

The setting of the Study
The study is focused on radiographic imaging carried out in a clinical department of radiology using digital radiography systems. This is a common setting where technologists perform imaging procedures on patients.

Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of collimation on the patient’s radiation dose while maintaining the quality of the image produced.

The purpose of the study is to:

Investigate the effects of collimation on the patient’s radiation dose during radiography.

Understand the relationship between the quality of the produced image and the use of collimation.

Identify the ways to enhance the quality of the produced image while maintaining the patient’s safety from the effects of radiation.

maintaining the quality of the image produced.
