In this experiment, the hydrometer method was applied to determine the soil texture of two different samples by knowing the percentage of sand, clay and silt in each sample.The results are consistent with soil texture databases and we found that the hydrometer method is an effective method for determining soil texture.The results showed through the principles of dispersion and sedimentation that sand settled and settled faster than clay and silt, so that the results through the hydrometer indicated that sand particles settled within 40 or less while clay and silt particles settled within two hours or more.

In this experiment, the hydrometer method was applied to determine the soil texture of two different samples by knowing the percentage of sand, clay and silt in each sample. The results showed through the principles of dispersion and sedimentation that sand settled and settled faster than clay and silt, so that the results through the hydrometer indicated that sand particles settled within 40 or less while clay and silt particles settled within two hours or more. In sample 1, the hydrometer readings showed a sand percentage of 65.5%, which is higher than the silt percentage of 34.5%. We also noticed the absence of clay, so based on the rules of soil texture, we classify the soil from the first sample as sandy clay. As for sample 2, the silt percentage was higher than sand, so the silt percentage was 77.9% and the sand percentage was 22.1%, so we classify it as clay loam. Soil texture determines its properties. For example, sample 1, which is sandy clay, does not retain water well, while sample 2, which is clay loam, retains more water and nutrients. The results are consistent with soil texture databases and we found that the hydrometer method is an effective method for determining soil texture.
