The successful transmission of data depends principally on two
factors:
o the quality of the signal being transmitted
o the characteristics of the transmission medium
Transmission Terminology
o Data transmission occurs between transmitter and receiver over
some transmission medium.o Unguided media, also called wireless, provide a means for transmitting
electromagnetic waves but do not guide them; examples are propagation
through air.o Examples of guided media are twisted pair, coaxial cable, and optical
fiber.
