Postmodern Feminism: In the 1980s and 1990s Postmodern Feminists criticized the old view of gender. Far from being a set of fixed and stable values and roles assigned/imposed by society, gender was a performance or role enacted by individuals. That is to say, gender is not a fixed category: its meaning depends on the location, time, cultural frameworks in which it is performed. In other words, gender is a continuous performance whose meaning can never be fixed for all time or as universal.
