Cell Division There are two forms of cell division that occur in multicellular eukaryotic organisms.During sexual reproduction the two haploid gametes will unite to form a diploid zygote, thus restoring the original diploid chromosome number in the next generation.During mitosis, the chromosome number of the parent cell is preserved in each daughter cell that contains the same number of chromosomes as the original cell.During this division, the number of chromosomes is halved in the sperms or eggs that contain haploid number of chromosomes.
