Ibn Jubayr left Granada in Spain in February 1183.He travelled on to Cairo, where he took a boat down the Nile to the town of Qus, and then travelled by camel to the coast to the Red Sea port of 'Aydhab, the modern Egypt-Sudan border.From 'Aydhab, he sailed across the Red Sea to the port of Jeddah in Arabia, from where he continued on by camel again to finally arrive in Mecca in August.
