A gift is something given voluntarily without expectation, such as to do someone a favor, honor an occasion, or offer a gesture of help. A present or donation is something given to a person (not the owner) without expectation of anything in return. Although gift-giving may involve an expectation of reciprocity, it is intended to be free. A gift may be something you receive on your birthday, or it may be a natural talent or gift you possess.
