The definition of sustainable development emerged in 1987 in the report titled "Our Common Future" by the former Norwegian Prime Minister, Mrs. Gro Harlem Brundtland, aiming to achieve a kind of justice and equality among future generations. According to this report, sustainable development is defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
