The distinction2
between primary and secondary sources is one
of nature-primary source were created within the period studied,
secondary sources are produced later, by historians studying that
earlier period and making use of the primary sources created within
it.
There are other ways also in which particular sources may be
seen as both ‘primary’ and ‘secondary’ in nature. A scholarly work
may be read as a contribution to its field or an approach to a specific
problem, and this as a secondary source, but also as a reflection of
attitudes to issues in a particular context or period or in other words
