Algerian public servants, including high-ranking officials and elected members, must declare their assets. The receiving authority varies: Supreme Court's First President for top officials (President, Parliament members, etc.), the National Authority for Corruption Prevention for local council members, and the supervisory authority or hierarchical authority for others. Declarations must detail all assets (real estate, movable property, cash) of the employee and their minor children, domestically and internationally, within one month of assuming office. Subsequent increases in assets must also be reported, with judges required to declare every five years. Failure to declare, or submitting incomplete/false declarations, is a criminal offense punishable by 6 months to 5 years imprisonment and a 50,000-500,000 DZD fine (Article 36, Law 06-01).

• Asset Declaration Procedure
  After outlining the categories of public servants required to declare their assets, we now detail the procedure for asset declaration as follows:
  Authority Receiving the Asset Declaration:
  The competent authority varies depending on the category of the official. The President of the Republic, members of Parliament, the President of the Constitutional Court and their deputies, the Prime Minister and government members, the President of the Court of Accounts, the Governor of the Bank of Algeria, ambassadors and consuls, and governors must declare their assets before the First President of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, elected members of local popular councils must submit their declarations to the National Authority for the Prevention and Fight Against Corruption. Those holding other official positions must declare their assets before their supervisory authority. As for the remaining employees required to declare their assets, as determined by the General Directorate of Civil Service, they must submit their declarations to the competent hierarchical authority.
  Content and Timing of the Declaration:
  The declaration must include a complete inventory of all real estate and movable assets owned by the public employee and their minor children, whether located in Algeria or abroad, including cash holdings. The deadline for declaring assets is set at one month from the date of taking office or the beginning of the electoral mandate. Anyincrease in the financial assets of the employee after the initial declaration must also be reported, although no specific deadline is set for this, except for judges, who arerequired by law to declare their assets periodically every five years.It is worth noting that, to strengthen corruption prevention through mandatory asset declaration, Algerian legislation classifies failure to declare as a criminal offense. According to Article 36 of Law 06-01, failure to comply is punishable by imprisonment ranging from six months to five years and a fine between 50,000 and 500,000 DZD. The offense is established once an obligated employee refuses to declare their assets.
