Workplace conflict is determinately amongst the employees of any organization even however
it is not very visible on the surface. Nonetheless, it is an indelible fact that conflict, if not
managed effectively, can take its toll on the well-being and productivity of individuals.
Unresolved conflicts may give rise to stress and depression leading to low morale and poor
work performance thus creating a vicious culture that leads to individual as well as
organizational failure. This note outlines the effects of conflict non-resolution and provides
recommendations on measures that may assist in creating conducive and healthy workplaces.
A lot of work place conflicts arises from interpersonal relations, tasks and organizational
structure. If they are not addressed, they can seriously impair the mental wellness of
employees affecting their performance, bringing about stress, anxiety, sedentary characteristics
and causal depression. Such effects go beyond the individuals involved in conflict situations as
the general atmosphere at work, other employees experience constant stress. Communication
fails, trust is lost, teamwork fails; these are the things that become involved in ceaseless conflict
situations. Employees constantly facing conflict situations are relatively more unmotivated,
tardier, have a high turn over because of absence from work etc., all factors that reduce
productivity collectively.
As a result, the loss of productivity is substantial since these conflicts waste time and resources
that would have contributed positively towards organizational goals. However it is more typical
that managers get sucked into the controversy of addressing internal problems instead of
