Leukemia: is cancer of the white blood cells. White blood cells help your body fight infections.
Blood cells are made in the bone marrow. In leukemia,however, the bone marrow produces
abnormal white blood cells. These cells crowd out healthy blood cells, making it hard for
blood to do its work. The incidence of radiation leukemia is influenced by age at the time of
exposure. The youngest person at the time of exposure, the shorter the latency and the risk period

leukemia develops, the body produces large numbers of abnormal blood cells. Leukemia can arise
in either of the two main types of white blood cells. When leukemia affects lymphoid cells, it is

myelogenous leukemia.
