The definition of sustainable development emerged in 1987 in the report titled "Our Common Future" by the former Norwegian Prime Minister, Mrs. Gro Harlem Brundtland, aiming to achieve a kind of justice and equality among future generations. According to this report, sustainable development is defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

The definition of sustainable development emerged in 1987 in the report titled "Our Common Future" by the former Norwegian Prime Minister, Mrs. Gro Harlem Brundtland, aiming to achieve a kind of justice and equality among future generations. According to this report, sustainable development is defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Algerian Law 03-10 defines sustainable development as "a concept that entails reconciling social and economic development that is sustainable and protecting the environment within a framework of development that ensures meeting the needs of both present and future generations
Dimensions of Sustainable Development:
A. Social Dimension: This dimension focuses on humans as the core of development and its primary goal through:
Justice in distribution.
Social mobility.
Popular participation and cultural diversity.
B. Economic Dimension: Considering the environment as an integrated economic entity, it serves as the foundation for development, and any pollution or depletion of its resources ultimately weakens its independent development opportunities. This dimension revolves around:
Sustainable economic growth.
Capital efficiency.
Meeting basic needs.
Social justice.
C. Institutional Dimension: Institutions and government administration bear the responsibility of preserving and developing the economic, social, and political environment as they constitute the executive body of the state program. Their efficiency and effectiveness remain contingent upon the performance of these institutions.
D. Environmental Dimension: It involves preserving natural resources and their optimal sustainable use and forecasting them for the purpose of precaution and prevention. This dimension revolves
Energy.
Biodiversity.
Adaptability.
Biological productivity.
