The geographical location of the Sultanate has made it rich in different types of plant species, as more than (1295) plant species have been recorded, some of which grow in dry deserts, others in fertile areas, valleys and coastal areas.The mountains of Dhofar Governorate, the mountains of northern Oman, the eastern and western Al Hajar mountain ranges and the limestone plateau in Al Wusta Governorate are among the most important main centers of plant species in the Sultanate, as there are some types of perennial trees in the Green Mountain region that are unique to the Sultanate, such as the Alalan, Atam and But trees.The Sultanate contains an important plant diversity at the regional and global levels.

The plant environments in the Sultanate are unique in that each environment is distinguished by a group of plants and trees that have adapted to grow in it and not in other environments. The mountains of Dhofar Governorate, the mountains of northern Oman, the eastern and western Al Hajar mountain ranges and the limestone plateau in Al Wusta Governorate are among the most important main centers of plant species in the Sultanate, as there are some types of perennial trees in the Green Mountain region that are unique to the Sultanate, such as the Alalan, Atam and But trees. The Sultanate contains an important plant diversity at the regional and global levels. There are about 1295 species of flowering plants and ferns in the Sultanate, in addition to a large percentage of endemic plants, reaching 78 species, with the availability of (136) plant families present in the Sultanate that are threatened with extinction. Dhofar Governorate contains large numbers of these endemic plants, reaching 80%, while southern and central Oman have been identified among the most important areas of plant diversity in the world, reaching 35 regions. In the Sultanate, there are many wild plants present in the Sultanate that have medicinal and aromatic uses that have been known since ancient times.
