  1. Impact of ankylosing spondylitis on social life
    Of the 50 patients, 27 were married and 23 single. Mean age
    was 32.5 years in the single women (4/8, 50%) and 29.9 years in
    the single men (19/42, 45%. AS was considered the reason for being
    single by three (75%) of the four women compared to only four
    (21%) of the 19 men).
    Among the 27 married patients, 12 (44%) men reported sexual
    problems related to AS and 10 reported negative reactions of their
    spouses to the disease. The mean number of children in these 27
    married patients was 3.4 (range, 1–8). An impact of the disease on
    the quality of life of the children was reported by eight patients
    (seven men and one woman). School problems ranging from poor
    performance to stopping school were described.

    Physical support from the family was reported by 37 (74%)
    patients, financial support by 26 (52%), and psychological support
    by 45 (90%).
    The only factor significantly associated with sexual problems
