‏You are not infallible, mistakes sleep in the memory for an unlimited period, then suddenly you wake up to the reproach of conscience, and you are filled with feelings of reproach and pain for the blaming soul, but what do you do about these mistakes? The soul wants a clear answer from you, so it enjoys the question. But the dough of days is pregnant with mistakes, it does not recognize gray hair or age, as each stage has its mistakes that accumulate and increase over past mistakes. The human soul rolls between three levels that become clear according to the position of faith and the degree of its entrenchment in the human soul and the way he deals with the mistake committed. In the first rank we find the reassured soul that performs all its duties and avoids sins and transgressions, as it is considered the most reassured and comfortable soul, so God Almighty singled it out in His saying. : {يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي}. The second level is the self-reproaching soul, which is the soul that reproaches its owner for his failure to obey God and perform duties. This soul monitors the individual’s behavior and holds him accountable for his mistakes, which prompts him to correct his path. The self-reproaching soul refuses to violate the rights of others and uses verbal violence and reprimand as a means of discipline. The intensity of the reproach varies according to the severity of the mistake, and this internal reproach often ends with seeking forgiveness and resorting to God. This soul is referred to, and can be called, the conscience soul that God chose in His saying: : (فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّامَّةِ) . The third level of the soul is the soul that commands evil, which drives its owner to vice, abandon worship, and commit sins. This soul suffers from loss in this worldly life, as things become mixed up for it and it loses the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. Thus, the soul that commands evil is considered dead and blind, and it is the one about whom Allah Almighty said: :(وَمَا أُبْرِئُ نَفْسِي إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّي إِنَّ رَبِّي لغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ) The soul that commands evil longs for reassurance and adherence to virtue, but sometimes it falls into vice and surrenders to obsessive thoughts, which makes it command evil.
