Bacterial meningitis can be characterized by a range of severe symptoms, including headaches, photosensitivity, nuchal rigidity, nausea or vomiting, and malaise. However, the aseptic form tends to develop more gradually, and less severe symptoms are observed in this illness. Headache and neck stiffness are the most obvious signs, although fever can be less severe. In children, each type primarily exhibits systemic manifestations, including fever, respiratory complications, and, in the case of bacterial meningitis, rash, as well as meningeal symptoms such as headache and stiff neck, which are less common.
