Theory
A solar cell is the basic unit of a solar energy generation system where electrical energy is extracted directly from light energy without any intermediate processes. The work of a solar cell solely depends upon its photovoltaic effect, hence, a solar cell is also known as a photovoltaic cell. A solar cell is basically a semiconductor p-n junction device. It is formed by joining p-type (high concentration of holes or deficiency of electrons) and n-type (high concentration of electrons) semiconductor materials. The construction of a solar cell is depicted in Figure 1-1.
