Babylonian Traditions

The earliest known linguistic tradition began in antiquity, in societies that established traditions of writing, the earliest linguistic texts written in Cuneiform (the earliest system of writing in the world) were established in Southern Mesopotamia.There are western and non-western traditions of language studies, different from each other in geographic situation, system of writing, and to whcich extent each is more influential in the field of language studies.Sumerian language lasted many years, founded its grammatical traditions and became the language of religion and legal texts.They were the Greeks, Indians, Romans and Arabs.Around 5000 years ago.

Traditional Grammarians were people who studied their language in ancient times. They were the Greeks, Indians, Romans and Arabs. This approach is called traditional because it was transmitted from an early past. In fact, Traditional Grammar was the root of what is now known as Linguistics. Linguistic investigation, in so far as is known, has gone on in only a small number of societies. There are western and non-western traditions of language studies, different from each other in geographic situation, system of writing, and to whcich extent each is more influential in the field of language studies. Babylonian Traditions

Around 5000 years ago. Sumerian language lasted many years, founded its grammatical traditions and became the language of religion and legal texts. The people of Mesopotamia used in their daily speech another different and unrelated language called "Akkadian" (Afro-Asiatic) this language became gradually the official and the prestigious language.

Chinese Traditions

Similar to Indian traditions, the Chinese began attempts to understand classical language, one of the most well-known linguistic work in China was that

of Showen Jiezi (2nd BC) who wrote the first Chinese dictionary. Later, the focus turned to studying dialects. As in ancient Greece, early Chinese linguists were concerned with relationship between names and reality. The study of phonology began late and was influenced by the Indian traditions. A great philologist Zhang Benghum helped greatly in the foundation of modern Chinese linguistics.
