Crime Doesn't Pay ㅍThe phrase "crime doesn't pay" means that crime or any illegal methods of earning is not a profitable venture, or rather it is never beneficial. Its implied meaning is that it always invites punishment. A criminal always has to bear the consequence of his/her actions. Coming from a trusted outlet, the saying leads us to believe it's true because ultimately it does make sense. That crime does not benefit us, after all there is a legal system in place to punish those that commit offences against the law. So the end isn't worth the means. But is this truly the case? Crime exists. It's just an inevitable part living in a society and stems from the conflict between individuals. Crime always has existed and it always will, even with systems of punishment in place. In today's society within the field of criminology, the tow categories of crime are white collar crime (corporate crime committed by those of higher social status) and blue collar crime (a more blatant felony such as theft and vandalism committed by people of lower social status). Though these are both offences against society's laws, they are not equally judged. I believe that the motivations of establishing and maintain power and status for white collar crime carry less of a social stigma than their blue collar crimes are socially destructive but blue collar crime carries a heavier stigma for convicted street criminals than white collar criminals do.
