Les bactéries constituent un groupe très diversifié d'organismes microscopiques
unicellulaires, de forme très variable mais qui possèdent en commun un plan général
d'organisation et un certain nombre de caractères structuraux.
En général, la cellule bactérienne est entourée d'une paroi résistante (un complexe de
lipides, de polysaccharides er de polypeptides). Elle est limitée par une membrane plasmique
constituée par une bicouche lipidique contenant des protéines intramembranaires. Le
chromosome bactérien (nucléoide) est sous forme d'un filament disposé en boucle fermée qui
occupe le centre de la bactérie. Il n'est pas séparé du cytoplasme par une enveloppe. Le
cytoplasme est riche en protéines et renferme des ribosomes.
