animals, and minerals. They are used as such as they
occur in nature with out any processing except drying.
Crude drug or raw drug:
It is the plant or animal material before it is subjected to extensive
processing or modification. It is a part of plant or animal and used
in medicine.
Examples of crude drugs:
1.Entire plants or animals: Lobelia, Mentha.
2.Entire organs: Senna, Clove, Fennel, Linseed, Thyroid gland.
3.Mineral: Chalk; Kaolin, Talc.
4.Unorganised drugs: Opium, Aloes, Acacia, Gelatin
