Treatment of landfill leachate mixed with municipal wastewater having a complex chemical composition with high COD,TSS, NH3, NO3, and PO4 had been studied by several researchers using various conventional techniques (Mojiriet al. 2021).For instance, Chakraborty et al. (2020) tried a combination of sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and EC for co-treatment of landfill leachate and municipal wastewater with EC followed by SBR treatment.

However, with certain limitations and low efficiency, the combination of two or more treatment techniques had found better removal efficiencies. For instance, Chakraborty et al. (2020) tried a combination of sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and EC for co-treatment of landfill leachate and municipal wastewater with EC followed by SBR treatment. It was found that SBR was effective in removing COD to a maximum of 65%, total suspended solids 77%, ammonia 89%, nitrate 80%, and phosphate 64%. However, by applying EC as a post-treatment step, the overall COD, TSS, and inorganic ions achieved 98%, 98%, and 99%,respectively. These results indicated the suitability of the SBR
treatment in combination with EC as a post-treatment step signifying combined effectiveness in treating landfill and municipalwastewater
