  1. Microscopes :
    • Microscopes are useful to investigate morphology, size,
    structure and even composition of solids depending upon the
    type of microscope .
    • SEM, TEM, STM, AFM, SNOM, and some of the powerful
    microscopes are able to resolve structures up to atomic
    resolution .

  2. Diffraction Techniques :
    • X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Electron Diffraction, Neutron
    Diffraction, Small Angle X-Ray Scattering (SAXS), Small
    Angle Scattering (SAN) and Dynamic Light Scattering
    (DLS).
    • Scattering or diffraction techniques are often used in practical
    shape and average particle size analysis as well as structural
    determination .
    • X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Scattering Factor, Bragg’s
    Law of Diffraction, Diffraction From Different Types of
    Samples, Crystal structure factor, Diffraction from
    Nanoparticles, X-Ray Diffractometer, Dynamic Light
    Scattering .

  3. Spectroscopies :
    • UV- Vis -IR, FTIR, AAS, ESR or EPR, NMR, ESCA, XPS,
    AES. Spectroscopies are useful for chemical state analysis

    ductility or friction of different nanostructures need to be
    investigated .
    • Vicker’s test is often used in which a small diamond indenter
    is used .
    • It has a pyramid shape.
    • The impression left behind in the material is investigated
    using a suitable microscope .
    • In nanoindentation, force and displacement of the tip in the
    material are continuously monitored .
