Psychology is not only important in nursing but in everyday life.It can become emotionally stressful and as nurses we will encounter unethical situations.Although we are not licensed psychologists, we practice therapeutic communication in order to establish a more intimate relationship with our patients.In order to properly care for our patients we need to ensure that we evaluate our own feelings in order to provide optimal care that is free from judgement.Most often, hospitals aren't seen as a happy place for most individuals.Therefor mental health is crucial in nursing.

Therefor mental health is crucial in nursing. We want to ensure that patients are understood, well taken care of, and comfortable communicating not only their medical concerns but psychological as well. Although we are not licensed psychologists, we practice therapeutic communication in order to establish a more intimate relationship with our patients. Resulting in our patients feeling comfortable sharing their inner thoughts and questions. We can then refer them to a psychologist/social worker who can further assist the patient. Furthermore, psychology is important to health care workers. We hear, see, and even feel the situations that we encounter on the floor. It can become emotionally stressful and as nurses we will encounter unethical situations. Remember, first you have to evaluate your own feelings - feel, understand, execute. In order to properly care for our patients we need to ensure that we evaluate our own feelings in order to provide optimal care that is free from judgement.
