The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion has faced criticism, with some arguing that it is no longer relevant to current health challenges, its action modalities are outdated, and it is ineffective, inefficient, utopian, and therefore non-operational. However, we believe the Charter remains a pertinent response to today's major challenges. Its levers are proven effective and efficient, and it can serve as an integrative framework capable of accommodating contextual and scientific developments in public health. Therefore, it is not time to abandon it but rather to intensify its deployment.

La Charte d’Ottawa pour la promotion de la santé fait l’objet d’un certain nombre de critiques. Ainsi, peut-on entendre ou lire – 30 ans après sa promulgation – qu’elle ne répond plus aux problématiques actuelles de santé, que ses modalités d’actions sont obsolètes, qu’elle n’est pas efficace, encore moins efficiente voire utopique et, par conséquent, non opérationnelle.
Nous pensons au contraire que la Charte représente une réponse pertinente aux enjeux majeurs d’aujourd’hui. Ses leviers sont prouvés efficaces et efficients, ils peuvent constituer un cadre intégrateur à même d’accueillir les évolutions contextuelles et scientifiques en santé publique. Il n’est ainsi pas temps de l’abandonner, mais au contraire d’intensifier son déploiement.
