In this study, EF, MLR-APCS model, and Pb stable isotopes were integrated and applied for quantitative identification of anthropogenic trace metal sources in surface river sediments from a hilly agricultural watershed.For Pb, different sources were also quantitatively discriminated by isotopic analysis, which verified the EF and MLR-APCS results.

In this study, EF, MLR-APCS model, and Pb stable isotopes
were integrated and applied for quantitative identification of
anthropogenic trace metal sources in surface river sediments
from a hilly agricultural watershed. The integration of EF and
MLR-APCS model was based on the theory that anthropogenic
sources identification can be more reliable from evaluating
the excessive concentrations of trace metals compared with
the total concentrations of them. Based on the excessive trace
metal concentrations, three major anthropogenic sources were
identified, and their respective contributions were estimated
by using MLR-APCS model. For Pb, different sources were
also quantitatively discriminated by isotopic analysis, which
verified the EF and MLR-APCS results. In general, the integrated
application of EF, MLR-APCS model, and Pb stable
isotopes is a reliable source identification approach, which can
help to prevent and control anthropogenic trace metal inputs
into watershed sediments.
