The first issue can be stated as a weak effectiveness of many renewables compared to conventional forms of energy. For instance, practical commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) panels’ efficiency goes up to 15-20% meaning that a meager portion of solar energy can be utilized to create electricity. Likewise, the efficiency of wind turbines stands at 30 to 45 percent at best while hydroelectric power plants can have achieved efficiencies of up to 90 percent. These efficiency levels, although quite improved, are not as high as those of the fossil fueled power plants which range between 40% and 60% according to Pérez-Lombard et al., 2008.
