Facility design establishes the physical infrastructure and environment; cGMP operational standards govern how that environment is used; and pharmaceutical quality represents the outcome — a consistently safe and effective product. Failures at any stage of this lifecycle propagate downstream, ultimately affecting patient safety.
This lifecycle concept is central to ICH Q10, which describes the pharmaceutical quality system as encompassing the entire product lifecycle and requiring management commitment to quality at the facility design stage (ICH, 2008).
