There are four major types of pollution which are: air pollution, water
pollution, land pollution, and noise pollution. Air pollution is determined as the
presence of pollutants in the air in large quantities for long periods. Air pollutants
are hydrocarbons, CO, CO2, NO, NO2. Water pollution refers to the presence of
pollutants in water at high levels that affect the water quality. Water pollutants are
industrial wastes, oil spills, farm wastes, and pesticides. Land pollution occurs
through the release of chemicals or the disposal of wastes, such as heavy metals,
hydrocarbons, and pesticides. Lastly, machines, vehicles, traffic noises, and
musical installations that are harmful to our hearing produce noise pollution.
Pollution has several adverse effects on animals, plants, environment,
ecosystem and human beings. It is a global issue and people are now being more
aware of the need to prevent this problem. It is vital to control pollution to prevent
its adverse effects on our environment and life in general.
