The ka a fundamental component of the person together with the ba (an animated manifestation of the deceased) and the akh (the transfigured spirit) is a sort of vital force that keeps the individual alive both on earth and in the Afterlife. The ka needs a physical support to survive, i.e. a mummified body. The "statues of the ka" averted destruction of the body by providing the soul with an incorruptible resting place.

These two life-size statues of Tutankhamun stood facing one another on either side of the burial chamber. They are almost identical but differ slightly in the headdress and the inscriptions of the skirt. Originally they were wrapped in sheets of linen, traces of which were found when the tomb was opened.
One of the statues wears a "bag-like" wig known as khat, the other the nemes, the striped headdress with two flaps that hang down on the chest and another at the back. Both statues display a gilded bronze uraeus serpent on the forehead and clasp a club and a stick
The pleated skirt known as a shendyt bears a vertical inscription on the trapezoidal cloth on the front that is different on each of the two statues. The birth name of the king is given on the statue

with the nemes: "Tutankhamun, forever alive like Ra each day."
