[7:20 pm, 25/03/2024] Yousra Alghamdi: The history of epidemiology goes back to the time of Hippocrates more than 2,000 years ago. At this time, their hypothesis was that environmental factors affect the occurrence of the disease. In the nineteenth century, concrete measures were taken among large groups of the population to distribute the disease among them, and this period was the beginning of epidemiology. Epidemiology is not limited to infectious diseases, but rather includes chronic non-communicable diseases such as cancer. The development of epidemiology began 400 BC. Hippocrates tried to find out and explain the cause of disease and suggested that host and environmental factors such as behavior affect the development of the disease.
