  1. Find the total mass of the vehicle using a top-pan balance.

  2. Make a mass of a hanger 10 g using 5 g slotted mass and plasticine.

  3. Attach the thread to the vehicle and the end over the pulley to the hanger.
    Note. The thread has to be parallel to the track.
    Use plasticine to fix the thread on the vehicle.

  4. Switch on the air blower and place the vehicle on the air track at the distance
    0.5 m.

  5. Press the key START/STOP (the digital counter is ready to measure the time At of passing the card through the photogate) and release the vehicle.

  6. Press again the key START/STOP and read the time of obscuration At in ms. Write down the result in the table below.

  7. Increase the mass of the hanger by 10 g, place the vehicle at distances = 0.5 m
    and repeat steps 5-6. (Maximum mass is m = 60 g).

  8. Calculate the speed of the vehicle using the equation: v =

    Note:
    If & is measured in mm and At is in ms the ratio I(mm) / At(ms) gives the speed in m/S.

  9. Calculate the acceleration of the vehicle according to the equation [8.3].
