Living things need energy for growth and movement. Energy is involved when: The bird flies. A bomb exploded. Rain falls from the sky. Electricity flows in a wire.
Energy can be defined as the capacity to perform any work. If a body or organism does work (exerts a force over a distance to move an object), the body or organism uses energy. When we walk or run or doing any work then after some time we feel tired, this is because of energy of our body.
Because of the direct connection between energy and work, energy is measured in the same unit as work: joules (J).
In addition to using energy to do work, objects gain energy because of the work done on them.
