(Frenkel, 1991). Oocyst develop in the intestine of the definitive host (the cat) by
gametogony (sexual reproduction). The mature one contains two sporocysts, each
has four sporozoites, which is the infective form (Dubey, 2010) Fig. (1). the cat
excretes the oocyst with feces after (3-24) days of infection; ten million of oocyst
are shed in feces in a single day, (Pavesio and Ligthman, 1996). Sporulated oocysts
are remarkably resistant and can survive in soil for several months and resist the
stomach juices (Mims et al., 2004). Oocysts are highly resistant to environmental
conditions and can remain infectious for as long 18 months in water or warm,
moist soils (Johnsen, 2009).
They do not survive well in arid cool climates, they can remain infectious for
weeks in body fluids at room temperature, and in meat for as long as the meat is
edible and uncooked (Paniker , 2002).
