Before Lenovo was established with its actual name and current business presence, IBM PCD introduced the first personal computer in 1981, and launched it in 1986.
In 1984, the founding president of Lenovo, Liu Quanzhi, decided to establish New Technology Developer Inc with 10 of his colleagues, which is the foundation of the Legend Group. This was for a small amount of $25,000 at the time, and the project was funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 1990, the company launched the first Legend computer, considering it the first device fully produced by the company. The company continued to produce laptops and continued to develop the technologies used in them.
In 1995, the company introduced the first Legend brand server.
In 1996, the Legend brand occupied for the first time the largest share of the computer hardware market in China.
By 1999 the company had become the largest seller of personal computers in the Asia-Pacific region.
In 2000 the company became a component of the Hang Seng Stock Exchange in Hong Kong.
In 2002, the company launched the DeepComp 1800 computer, which is the fastest computer in China for civilian use, and at that time it ranked 43rd on the list of the 500 best computers in the world.
In 2003, Legend announced the adoption of a new brand, Lenovo, in preparation for expansion into foreign markets.
In 2004, Lenovo became the first Chinese company to supply technical equipment to the International Olympic Committee. In the same year, Lenovo cooperated with IBM and concluded an agreement under which Lenovo acquired the personal computing division of IBM. This partnership made Lenovo the third largest personal computer company in the world.
In 2008, Lenovo entered the global PC market with a new brand, Idea.
In 2009, it became the top technology sponsor of World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, selling one million Idea devices.
In 2010, Lenovo introduced the first smartphone to the market, and during the same period it acquired the Medion computer company, worked on a joint project with NEC, and crossed the barrier of 60 million ThinkPad devices sold.
The company then continued to grow and sell its devices, and entered into partnerships with several international companies that contributed to its expansion. In 2016, Lenovo collaborated with Google to develop the first mobile device equipped with 3D motion tracking and depth sensing.
In 2017 and 2018, Lenovo continued to partner with other companies to manufacture new and innovative products and expand into other foreign markets.
