Methods
Procedure
This study was designed as a quasi-experimental case-control
design. It was approved by the ethics committee for human subi
research of the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences at Haif-
University. Data was collected between March 2011 and August 2012
The researcher met with cach participant individually in a quiet location
and obtained a signed written informed consent. Each participant
completed a socio-demographic questionnaire followed by an extensive
set of evaluations and questionnaires. Adults with LD were invited to
have the questions read to them out loud, and to receive a free
professional advisory hour in exchange for their participation.
The final sample size of 110 participants (55 adults wíth LD and 55
controls) was determined using a statistical power analysis program [431.
The GPower3 program calculated a critical tof 1.659 with 108 df and a
sample power of 0.831 for 21 central constructs which were examined
with an effect size of 0.5 and a error probability of 0.05.
The inclusion criteria were: 20-50 years of age, mother tongue level

activities and QoL. Participants in the study group were required to
present proof of their LD diagnoses signed by a formal professional. With
respect to the control group, only participants who could answer "no" to
the following two questions were included: "Has anyone ever told you
that you may have a LD?" and "Did you ever think you may have a LD?"
