    Nose:




  • Inspection and Palpation:




  • Inspect external nose for symmetry, deformities, or lesions.




  • Use a nasal speculum to inspect the mucosa, septum, and turbinates.




  • Palpate the sinuses for tenderness or swelling.
    Mouth and Throat:




  • Inspection:




  • Use a penlight to examine the lips, teeth, gums, tongue, palate, tonsils, and throat.




  • Check for swelling, discoloration, or lesions.




  • Palpation:




  • Check for abnormal masses or tenderness in the mouth.




  • Evaluate gag reflex and tongue mobility (Cranial Nerves IX, X, and XII).





  1. Health Assessment Exams:


Nose:



  • Assess nostril patency by asking the patient to breathe through each nostril.

  • Transillumination of the sinuses to check for inflammation.
    Mouth and Throat:

  • Observe uvula movement when the patient says "ahh" (tests Cranial Nerve X - Vagus).

  • Test tongue movement (Cranial Nerve XII - Hypoglossal).

  • Note any unusual breath odors (Halitosis) as an indicator of oral or systemic issues.
