  • How it works: BPSK is the simplest form of PSK. It uses two phases to represent binary data (0 and 1). Think of it like this: a carrier signal's phase is shifted by 0 degrees for a '0' and 180 degrees for a '1'.

  • Spectral Efficiency: BPSK is not spectrally efficient. It can only transmit 1 bit per symbol. This means that the bandwidth required to transmit data is directly proportional to the data rate.

  • Power Efficiency: BPSK is very power-efficient. It can operate effectively even with low signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). This is because the symbols are maximally separated in phase, making them easier to distinguish even with noise.

  • How it works: QPSK uses four phases to represent data. Each phase shift represents two bits (dibit). This means you can transmit more data within the same time frame.

  • Spectral Efficiency: QPSK is more spectrally efficient than BPSK. It transmits 2 bits per symbol, doubling the data rate for a given bandwidth.
