However, there are other problems with the answer. It is not designed in an effective way for a job interview. In interviews in the United States you are often supposed to make yourself and your skills and accomplishments sound significant without sounding like you are arrogant or bragging. This was actually a practice interview done by an agency trying to help poor women get employment. The questions asked were typical of the sorts of interviews these women would face. Many of the jobs they would seek would be low-level service jobs. How does this context affect what you make of the interview question and how it is expected to be answered in a typical job interview in the United States?
If you are not from the United States, re-do the woman’s answer in terms of how such a question would be answered in a job interview in a culture with which you are familiar. If such a question would not be asked in that culture, why not? Give an example of an important sort of question that would be asked in a job interview and how it would be answered.
